Entry requirements
What criteria do you have to meet?
You can apply to the project “Selection of Qualified Foreign Workers” only if you meet the following basic criteria.
1. Permitted stay in the Czech Republic for these purposes:
If you want to be included in the project, you must prove that you are allowed to live in the Czech Republic and produce:
- A valid visa for over 90 days for the purpose of employment, with a marked validity period of at least six months
or - a long-term residence permit for the purpose of employment
or - a valid visa for the purpose of scientific research
or - a valid visa for the purpose of family reunification with a foreigner with permanent residence in the Czech Republic
or - a Green card (type A or B);
Other kinds of residence permits are not accepted when submitted with the application.
By no means can you join the project if you are an asylum seeker in the Czech Republic (a refugee), or if you have already been granted asylum in the Czech Republic.
We inform citizens of Moldova, Tadzikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan of the need of health declaration proving that they don’t suffer from TBC, siphilis and virus HIV when they ask for visa for over 90 days or long-term visa.
2. Work permit
The project is open for you only if you have found legal employment in the Czech Republic, and the relevant local labour office has issued a work permit for you (if this permit is required under the s. 98 of Act no. 435/2004). You cannot join the project if you have work permit issued under s. 89 of Act no. 435/2004 Sb., on employment (partners, members of co-operatives, statutory bodies, members of statutory or other bodies of companies or co-operatives).
You can join the project if you are the holder of a type A or B green card.

3. Achieved education
You must prove that you have successfully completed at least secondary education ending with the secondary school leaving exam.
This condition does not apply to foreign graduates of Czech secondary schools.
4. Professional experience
Upon submitting the application to participate in the project, you have to produce a document proving that you were employed full-time for at least six months, working at any position.
This condition does not apply to foreign graduates of Czech secondary schools and universities.

5. Nationality
Citizens of these countries can apply for the project: Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Barma, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Georgia, Guatemala, Honduras, Chile, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Laos, Macedonia(FYROM), Malaya, Mexico, Moldova, Monte Negro, Nepal, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Philippines, Republic of South Africa, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Salvador, Serbia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tadzikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United States of America, Uruguay, Uzbekistan.
This condition does not apply to foreign graduates of universities and other tertiary education institutions in the Czech Republic who graduated in 1995 or later, and neither to graduates of Czech secondary schools who graduated in 2000 or later. The project is open to foreign graduates irrespective of their nationality unless they have studied in the Czech Republic within the framework of development assistance provided to their home countries.
Criteria to be included in highly qualified foreign workers category
There will be project participants with university level of education working in the CR on positions requiring university level of education and corresponding to their qualification (education or practice) included in the category of highly qualified workers. MLSA officials shall select the participants meeting bellow stated criteria from all on-line filed applications accepted after July 1st, 2007:
- University level of education
- Job requiring to university level of education in the CR
- Work practice corresponding to the current job lasting 1,5 year as minimum
Or - University level of education corresponding to the current job.
Such participants will be included in the highly qualified foreign workers category and will be entitled to apply for permanent residence for themselves and their family members already after 1,5 year of their participation in the project. Other participants will be registered in the standard category of qualified foreign workers and will be entitled to apply for permanent residence for themselves and their family members after 2,5 years of their participation in the project.
What criteria you do not have to meet
Entering the project is not limited by age, and you do not need to be able to speak or understand the Czech language (even though it will certainly be useful in terms of acquiring points in the selection procedure). Furthermore, you do not have to be employed in a certain field. By no means can you be excluded on account of your faith or religion.
If you meet the above stated basic conditions (1. – 5.), you may apply to the project. The Scoring system will tell you what your chances are.
As a result of participation in the government project, participants come under the category of foreigners specified in section 66 paragraph 1 letter b) of Act No 326/1999 Coll., from whom no document is required proving the required knowledge of the Czech language.
