Procedure to Be Followed by Foreigners when Getting a Job in the CR

Legal employment in the CR is the basic precondition for joining the project. Any foreigner may work in the CR under the condition that they hold a valid work permit (if this permit is required under the s. 98 of Act no. 435/2004) and a valid visa for the stay with the purpose of employment, for the purpose of scientific research, for the purpose of family reunification with a foreigner with permanent residence in the Czech Republic or a Green card (type A or B);

The foreigner must file an application for a work permit to the respective Labour Office. This usually takes place before the foreigner’s arrival to the CR.

The foreigner may be represented by the employer or other authorised representative acting upon a power of attorney and within the scope of the power of attorney in the proceedings.

As soon as the foreigner files an application for the work permit, he may file the application for visa for the stay with the purpose of employment.

Furthermore, as of October 2005 the procedure has been simplified so that that the administrative proceedings concerning the issuance of a visa for the stay for over 90 days for the purpose of employment may be executed in concurrence with the proceedings for the work permit. Report just the reference number of his Work Permit Application as well as the information to which Labour Office has the application been filed, when applying for the visa for over 90 days.
